CHARITY DAY...How it all went

Well.. where do start !
06:30 sunday 5th Oct.
I have an early start running to manchester airport..(in the car of course), the rain lashing down so having to keep the speed down to about 60mph, but all the time thinking of the day ahead of us all, hoping the rain was going to stop, not even thinking what was to come.
On my return journey from the airport heading for Ellesemere Port golf club, About 10 minutes away from arriving with the sun now breaking through, it seemed everything was going to plan when 'ring ring' my mobile goes and Scots John was on the other end telling me the bad news(I managed to decipher that part), the course is closed due to waterlogged fairways, well..allsorts were running through our minds but I carried onto the course anyway, as I had to meet Ewan there and inform any players who arrived, of the disaster lurking ahead of us all.
So after a cup of coffee with Ewan we all start phoning each other, we, being scots john, ian, tony, ewan and me, discovering that all the courses in wirral were closed so we couldn't change the venue locally.
Then Scots john rang us and saved the day, he said he managed to get us on Sutton hall, so after more phone calls and discussions we decided to go ahead with the event which involved 64 players one of which was Alan Kennedy as our football celebrity and guest. Who by the way was on the plane from Belfast due to meet us at the Ellesemere Port, totally unaware of whats gone on down on the ground.
So..off to Sutton hall we go, and to our delight we end up with 63 competitors, unfortunately one player could'nt play because the course wouldn't allow buggies due to overnight weather conditions and he needed it for medical reasons. But because we had to put the tee times back it meant unfortunately not all teams could finish due to low light, but i am sure they understood as nobody complained but did comment saying "don't worry about it mate, its all in aid of a good cause", they have already asked to keep them informed about next years event which we hope to run during the summer months, after all, it was a learning curb for us this year.
THE EVENING.
The Evening started nearly 2 hours later than planned due the golf delay, but Wow! what a night it was, Comedian Hal Nolan was terriffic, 160+ people couldn't be wrong. He was followed by former Liverpool star Alan Kennedy doing his after dinner speech, and present the charity golf team winners of 2008 with their well deserved medals.
A special thank you goes to our wonderful helpers .. Kirsty, for spending 4 hours sitting on 4th tee handing out small prizes to the lucky winners on that particular par 3 hole, and Rachel & Zoe for their selling of the raffle tickets in the evening.

Karen..pictured above with Alan Kennedy, whom we partly raised funds for as well as Cancer Research UK. Has sent a Thank You card to the Kings arms which can be found in pub, just ask a golfing member or staff if you wish to read it. Finally but not least, we must give a huge thank you to all our sponsors & donaters of all the superb prizes which helped us raise a fabulous total of £1,821.
We now aim to go even better next year and hope to see you all there, and don't forget to tell your friends.
